This lab was designed to challenge students to analyze data in a complex situation while providing a little "Zombie- Busting" fun. Students were asked to gather data and create their own procedure to explain why some bacteria grew and glowed while others did not. Our lab group designed this experiment and decided to focus on why the bacteria glowed. We had our "ah-ha" moment and made the connection that our little glowing bacteria might have been affected by the PLGO plasmid. Personally, I learned how scientists and doctors can implant selected genes into a plasmid in order to transfer it to a patient. This technique is used commonly for creates Insulin for patients with diabetes. If I were to redo this lab, I would have incorporated videos into the powerpoint. I am really proud of this assignment and I really enjoyed doing it.
This lab was nominated by a group of science teachers as the best lab between the two AP Biology classes.
